Hazel Anderson: 1997-2007

After a sudden and terrible illness, we had to let Hazel go today. It has been a heart-wrenching day and not anything we expected. More details are on Mama Lucy's Blog. Go read about it and then come back here to read my list of incredible Hazel memories.

Hazel's Sad Story

Incredible Hazel Memories ~ In no particular order...

1. her crooked bottom teeth smile
2. her underbite
3. her unending patience with my photo sessions of knit items
4. naps in the afternoon at the foot of the bed with me
5. my CONSTANT companion during the 18 dark weeks of chickadee's pregnancy
6. swallowing the dog cookies whole
7. beating up on Evie, causing Evie (the PITBULL) to need stitches at the ER.
8. long walks in the evening
9. running in the kitchen with a bone in her mouth while Lanell squeals, "we are running, we are running!"
10. FROGS!
11. SWIMMING!
12. FISHING!
13. raw chicken livers - little treats she'd get when Evie got fed each night - she LIVED for Evie's dinner time
14. the softest, most velvetiest ears in the world!
15. french kisses
16. windmill tail
17. the blonde one
18. pony tails (her expressive ears)
19. sleeping bonnet (she'd put on her bonnet and take herself to bed every night around 9pm)
20. "Pookie #2, but no less than Pookie #1"
21. "My favorite blonde dog"
22. Dorky Dog Dance in the afternoon when Mama Lucy came home
23. singing! (howling like a wolf)
24. being scared of lightening, but not necessarily the thunder
25. humping evie and evie just letting her!
26. blonde eyelashes
27. SUN lover!
28. so so gentle with babies and young children
29. special attraction to pregnant women - she'd have to greet any baby in the belly who came to our door.
30. my special neighborhood newsletter delivery buddy - she knew the drill. we'd go up to all our neighbor's doors and from her perspective just face the door for a few seconds (while i slipped the newsletter into their door jam) and then we'd turn around and walk away. We did this once a month together all down our block. she loved it!

i'll continue adding to this one for a while, i'm sure.

I was so looking forward to her being my best labor companion. I was so looking forward to sharing chickadee with her. She would have LOVED having chickadee around. She would have just taken so much delight in licking and guarding chickadee. She was going to be our nanny. ;(

Evie is very mopey. We told her what happened to Hazel and that she wasn't coming back. She's just been so depressed and it's totally heart wrenching to see your dog so distraught. We didn't realize how much fun it was for Evie to have Hazel around. They were best good buds.
